Reveam Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, Chip Starns, was honored with the Randall S. Caswell Award at the 31st Annual CIRMS Meeting for his contributions to ionizing radiation measurements and standards.

(Rockville, MD) – Chip Starns, Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of Reveam, has been awarded the prestigious Randall S. Caswell Award by the Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards (CIRMS). Named after the former Chief of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Ionizing Radiation Division and visionary force behind the establishment of CIRMS, this award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to ionizing radiation measurements and standards for the Nation through leadership, participation, research, and mentoring.

With over two decades of leadership experience spanning operations, engineering, and sales, Chip has played a pivotal role in steering Reveam’s strategic business development endeavors and regulatory affairs. His extensive background includes serving in the U.S. Navy on nuclear submarines and holding the past president role at CIRMS, where he also served on the CIRMS Executive Committee for (11) years. Additionally, Chip holds a U.S. Patent for accelerator technology and is regularly sought after as a guest speaker at international conferences, U.S. National Labs, and leading universities. His contributions to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International, Radiation Processing Committee further underscore his dedication to the field.

Moreover, Chip’s influence extends globally, as evidenced by his invitation to present Reveam’s technology at the World’s First International Plant Health Conference in London in 2022. This event, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), and the UK Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), highlights his significant contributions to advancing innovation and excellence in the industry. Chip Starns’ profound impact on the field make him a fitting recipient of this prestigious recognition.

“Chip Starns’ career embodies the spirit of the Randall S. Caswell Award. On behalf of Reveam and personally from me, I’d like congratulate Chip on this well-deserved honor and applaud his contributions to ionizing radiation measurements and standards”, said Jeff Pelletier, CEO of Reveam. “Chip’s dedication has elevated Reveam to the forefront of food safety and phytosanitary control, positioning the company as a catalyst for positive change in global food supply.”

Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Reveam designs, manufactures, and operates high-energy electron linear accelerator systems under the trademark Electronic Cold-Pasteurization® (ECP®). Notably, the Rio Grande Valley ECP Center, certified by USDA and FDA in 2022, stands as a testament to Reveam’s commitment to innovation and regulatory compliance. This state-of-the-art center facilitates efficient and legal border crossing of fresh produce imports into the United States from Mexico and various other countries worldwide. Additionally, it serves as a gateway for U.S. agricultural exports onto the international market. Utilizing Reveam’s proprietary ECP technology, the center employs a controlled beam of high-energy, ionizing electrons to sterilize pests, eliminate pathogens like Listeria, E. coli and Salmonella, and eradicate bacteria and molds that compromise food safety and quality. Reveam is establishing itself as a global leader and actively pursuing additional ECP facilities in various U.S. markets and beyond.
